Solitude
The Lake House of Prayer is overlooking the famous Lake Victoria. A setting that will provide the needed solitude for our guests from the hustle and bustle of the 2 million-person African city of Mwanza, Tanzania. Our guests are encouraged to be alone with their God in order to be more present to their family, friends, and people whom they serve.
Silence
The contemplative life of the Church started in Africa with the Desert Fathers and Mothers of Egypt. They went to the desert to be in the Silence in which they discovered their vulnerabilities and God’s healing touch. The Lake House of Prayer will have a policy of keeping the silence that we hope will invite our guests to a restful and deep healing in Christ.
Simplicity
We will seek to create an environment that will be sensitive to our real human needs and not fall into the traps of consumerism. We will build in an ecologically friendly way that is open to the new and pressing challenges of climate change. We hope to grow much of our own food by growing a garden.
Spiritual Direction
We will have trained Spiritual Directors in the Christian Tradition to assist any guest who asks for this service. We feel that in the solitude and silence of the House of Prayer areas of our consciousness will bubble over that will need the attention of a skilled listener and teacher of the Spiritual Life.
Outreach to the Poor
We consider ourselves contemplatives in action; in our life of contemplative prayer, it is the Spirit that draws us out to serve the very poorest in our midst.
